Tech Curriculum / Lesson Plan Developerome)

About Tokyo Academics

Tokyo Academics is the passion project of a constellation of teachers, researchers, and academics from around the world. Since 2012, we’ve evolved from a few university friends to a growing number of part-time and full-time individuals located in Tokyo, as well as working remotely. We are an organization of experts deeply passionate about helping students meet their potential and capture the opportunities of the future.

We are looking for a self-directive tech educator who can quickly produce lesson plans and simple curriculum for our 10+ tech instructors. As our goal is to produce weekly lesson plans for elementary, middle, and high school classes, we encourage Programming & STEM educators to apply. This is a remote role: you can work from home but must be available for weekly meetings (~2-3 hours per week) during our regular business hours (10am – 7pm Japan Standard Time).

You will play a significant role in helping the organization continue to grow by delivering instructional plans that will educate many students.

What you will work on

  • Lead the development of lesson plans and curriculum for our group classes with input from our teacher trainers, and teachers.
  • Produce plans for students ranging from 1st grade to 10th grade with group sizes from 1 to 12 students.
  • Prioritize sourcing existing material and organize them into plans rather than building your own unique curriculum.
  • Design of 5 session, 10 session, and 15 session courses of mixed duration (1 – 4 hours long).
  • Ensure alignment to learning objectives and demonstrable outcomes such as projects, tests, and presentations.
  • Source specific textbooks that would be used alongside lesson plans.
  • Summarize various international curriculum/school standards to make recommendations and training documents for teachers.

Our ideal candidate

  • Minimum 1 year of teaching and lesson planning experience in Scratch, MineCraft, Python and/or Roblox (or any game development software)
  • Fluent English (reading/writing/speaking)
  • Must have high attention to detail
  • Can work independently and meet deadlines
  • Able to conduct thorough research, incorporate rapid feedback, and present information/instructions in a logical format
  • High proficiency with Microsoft and Internet applications (Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc.)
  • Must have a reliable internet connection and tools to work remotely
  • Self-driven project management using tools such as Asana, Trello, Quire, Excel, or others

Compensation

  • Project based

Work Hours

  • Flexible schedule, estimated commitment 5~20 hours/week
  • Working remotely, but must be available for meetings during business hours (10am-7pm Japan Standard Time)
